Millions invested in RDM engineering works
By signing the contract on Monday 23 April 2007, the Port of Rotterdam authority gave the green light for investing ten million Euros in the former RDM (Rotterdam Dry Dock Company) engineering works. These days, RDM stands for Research, Design and Manufacturing and the Port of Rotterdam authority's investment is intended for renovating the buildings and improving the infrastructure, such as providing waterborne public transport with the introduction of the waterbus.
Rotterdam University, Albeda College and various businesses will be collaborating to run training courses in the large factory hall.
The educational institutions expect that by March 2008 there will be 600 to 800 students on the 24,000m2 RDM campus. This district in the CityPorts area will become the only place in Rotterdam which combines education, research, manufacturing and (new) entrepreneurship. For example, students of car engineering will actually be able to build their own self-designed cars.
