Eemhaven and Waalhaven

These docks have been expanding in line with the increase in 24-hour container transhipment. Development of these districts will focus on intensification of short sea activities, modernisation of port functions and attracting port-related expertise and services.

The Waalhaven district will undergo redevelopment during the next few decades, as much of the port industry shifts out to the Tweede Maasvlakte and frees up space for new economic activities. Transhipment to and from seagoing ships will continue and more port-related distribution activities will be introduced. New office accommodation for international companies will be built, one example of which is Dockworks on the east side of the Waalhaven.
