Evaluation T+- Governmental Agreement

At the end of June, the mayor and aldermen decided to evaluate the T+ Governmental Agreement for Industrial Noise in Waalhaven and Eemhaven. The governmental agreement contains preconditions from the Noise Nuisance Law, including the restructuring of the Waalhaven and Eemhaven which was deemed acceptable in 1995. The evaluation is being carried out in conjunction with the Province of South Holland, Albrandswaard and Schiedam councils, the Port of Rotterdam authority and Deltalinqs.

The governmental agreement was drawn up in 1995, based on the statutory (noise) zoning and decontamination of Waalhaven and Eemhaven. A noise contour, known as the T+ contour, forms part of the agreement. This took into account future industrial development expected at that time.

The evaluation will clarify the noise situation within the T+ contour. It will take into account the opinions of residents expressed in other environmental surveys concerning industrial noise in the adjoining districts within the T+ contour. Several companies are being interviewed in order to find out what the business sector thinks about the T+ contour.

The evaluation is being carried out because a lot has changed since 1995 and CityPorts Rotterdam and Nieuw-Mathenesse (Schiedam council) have drawn up new development plans. Much of the Merwehaven and Vierhavens area lies within this contour, so the results will have an impact on the redevelopment.

The results of the evaluation are expected at the end of 2007, when they will be presented to the residents.
