Rijnhaven and Maashaven
The Rijnhaven is being increasingly absorbed into the Kop van Zuid and Katendrecht developments. An international centre for trade with China is to be built there and the inland navigation vessels will shortly be relocated elsewhere. The moorings for inland navigation in the Maashaven will remain.
The Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Rotterdam (Rotterdam Development Company) is responsible for the development of the Rijnhaven. For the time being, the Maashaven is still under the control of the Port of Rotterdam authority, although there are plans for the phased redevelopment of its outskirts as an urban district.
Future plans for the Rijnhaven and Maashaven include the construction of 3,000 to 5,000 new residences for middle and higher income groups.
